Porcelain Figurines in historical context:
During the official ceremonial dinners, meals included the so-

“Schauessen” (German for “watchdishes”). The terms refer to a
dish, which is not to be eaten, but merely put on display.

confectioners weeks and months in advance, serving only a
decorative purpose to please the eye at the table. These types of
decorative sugar-works were replaced by biscuit porcelain

figurines during the late 18th century and showcased various
scenes usually related to music, dance, romance etc..
