A late 19th century Barbizon School oil on canvas by Victor Jean Baptiste Barthélemy Binet (1849-1924), featuring a rural scene of sheep with a shepherd on a cloudy day.
The painting is set in its original gilded frame and is signed “V. Binet” and dated on the lower left. It is in very good condition.

He exhibited at the 1878 Paris Salon, at the Royal Academy in London in 1886 and was awarded a gold medal at the Exposition Universelle in 1889. Binet also received the title of the “Legion d’Honneur” in 1900.
The numerous works that Binet left to the posterity are testimonies of the conditions of life in the 19th century in Normandy and in the Paris region. Many of his works are found in French museums, including Amiens, Reims, Rouen, Bagnères-de-Luchon, Orsay, CNAP among others.
